Nadia van Coller

Hi, I'm Nadia.

I'm a homeschooling mom, and Unschooled was born out of our own homeschooling journey. Somewhere along the way, I realised I had completely changed my mind about what learning actually is.

Traditional school is incredibly good at organising education for lots of children at once. But I don't think that's the same as helping every child learn well.

Too often, children are expected to memorise huge amounts of information with very little context, move on because the calendar says it's time, and spend more time looking for the right answer than asking good questions. This wasn't the main reason we chose to homeschool — but it was a huge factor.

I don't think kids need a better conveyor belt.

They need room to follow what they're curious about.

I'm not anti-teacher, and I'm not against school. There are amazing teachers doing incredible work, and there are children who genuinely thrive in a classroom.

I just don't believe there's only one way to learn.

Everything you'll find here comes from that belief. The opinions are the things I've changed my mind about — purely because I refuse to accept only one narrative, one way. The resources are the ones I made for my own kids, then cleaned up to share with anyone, for free.

I'm not an expert. I'm just a parent who reads a lot, asks a lot of questions, and isn't afraid to challenge ideas that no longer make sense to me.

If that sounds like you — welcome.

Start with an opinion — that's where you'll hear how I actually think.
